is it possible to get TubePress to function on a server running PHP 4?

Hi Dan,
Unfortunately no. PHP 4 reached end-of-life a few years ago and I have no plans on backporting TubePress to support it. I would highly recommend asking your hosting provider to simply turn on PHP 5 for you - most of the time it's a simple setting and apps are almost entirely backwards compatible.
