When I click a thumbnail under an album collection, the player greys like it is changing, but then remains on the same video, with a grey overlay.

Hi,
You're running WordPress 2.9.2, which in turn is loading jQuery 1.3.2. TubePress requires jQuery 1.6 or higher, so the easiest solution is probably to simply upgrade your WordPress installation to the latest version.
