I posted this on the pre-sales area but it doesn't appear to get any attention.

We are testing the free version to determine if we will invest in the pro version. Some questions:

1. The free version grabs the default.jpg thumbnail from YouTube. Which thumbnail is grabbed w/ the pro version?  We would require it to be either maxresdefault.jpg or mqdefault.jpg (preferrably, mqdefault.jpg) as the 4:3 ratio looks terrible.

2. I've read that the pro version still displays the black bars above/below the thumb. This wouldn't be a problem if item #1 is solved.  Is it solved?

3. In the event we choose to stop w/ the yearly payment, what happens to the plugin?  What behavior is displayed?

4. Have you thought about simply offering a one-time payment for a add-on that would address the thumbnail issue?

Thanks,

Hi scaught,

1)  You can retrieve the HQ thumbnail with TubePress Pro.

2)  Please see the answer to question 4

3)  Once you have purchased TubePress Pro and paid for the year, you will receive all updates and priority support in the forums for that year.  If you do not renew for another year, your Pro plugin will continue to function normally, however you will not be able to download newer Pro versions of the software and you will not receive priority forum support.

4)  We do offer a plugin that removes the black bars.  Please see: http://community.tub...k-bars-remover/

Does that answer all of your questions?

Thanks!

Thanks for the answer, brandon.

So it looks like you're saying that the pro version retrieves the hqdefault.jpg file. I'm afraid I can't recommend this plugin to my clients because y'all are still retrieving the 4:3 version of the thumbnail, even with the pro version.  Given other similar plugins (that are free) retrieve the 16:9 version, I think it's a bad move on tubepress' part to require a customer to pay twice to get a higher res thumbnail that actually depicts what the video contains--an image with no black bars.

It would make more sense to do this:

1. For pro users, allow them to pick which thumbnail they way (4:3 or 16:9). [99.9% will likely take the 16:9).

2. For free users, allow them to buy the "bar removal" addon, which should simply grab the 16:9 image created by YouTube.

This way, you've got paying customers who get exactly what they want. . .either the full-blown pro version OR one the better matches the output of other plugins.

Thoughts?
