I'm using TubePress now for 2 or 3 months. Everything was fine, but today it stopped working. I don't know for how long is this problem going on, but surely it was working 1 week ago, when I last tested it.
If you go to my page (I'm sorry it's in portuguese) you'll see the gallery there. If you try to play the featured video, it goes on ok, but if you try to click on any thumbnail, then the featured video gets a gray shade, you can still play it or continue to see it, but the video corresponding to the thumbnail never loads. I tried then to upgrade to version 2.2.9, but the problem remains. Has anyone gone through this before?
My system:
Wordpress 3.2.1
TubePress 2.2.9
Shortcode used:
[tubepress thumbHeight='105' thumbWidth='135' mode="user" userValue="natacaoapanasc" orderBy="published"]
url: http://apanasc.com.b...-motivacionais/
Server OS: Linux (I don't have control over the version or upgrades)
My pc OS: MacOS X 10.6.7
Browsers: Safari and Firefox

Hi,

Are you able to upgrade to the latest version of TubePress (currently 2.4.1) ? It looks like you're using version 2.2.9. Using the latest version will rule out a bunch of bugs that have been fixed since. Let me know. Thanks!

Hi Eric,

yes, the first thing that I did was to upgrade to the latest version. The only file that remained unchanged from the 2.2.9 version is the style.css that I customized for my needs - everything else I overwrote with files from 2.4.1 version. I left the name of the folder tubepress_pro_2_2_9 (instead of 2_4_1) since i have few pages that are referencing that URL and I didn't want to go in change them all.

Thanks!

Well that's very odd indeed. Here's what I'm seeing - though I can't say I understand it entirely...

When you click on a thumb - TubePress makes an Ajax call to the server to get the HTML for the new video. In your case, clicking on a thumb results in a request to something like the following:

http://www.meridameridian.com/blog/wp-content/plugins/tubepress_pro_2_2_9/sys/scripts/ajax/playerhtml.php?tubepress_video=osC3WqThlqI&tubepress_shortcode=%255Btubepress%2520mode%253D%2522user%2522%252C%2520userValue%253D%2522meridameridian%2522%252C%2520resultsPerPage%253D%25226%2522%252C%2520galleryId%253D%25221474812246%2522%252C%2520sequence%253D%2522%2527J20n9txrkS8%2527%252C%2520%2527xU1pn5bKoE8%2527%252C%2520%2527osC3WqThlqI%2527%252C%2520%2527xNM-xv53JuQ%2527%252C%2520%2527vcFizottRyo%2527%252C%2520%2527jwOZSNoIEow%2527%2522%255D
If you open that URL in a browser, you'll see some valid JSON that TubePress will normally interpret and spit out HTML. However, when TubePress makes this call (instead of your web browser) it gets an empty response from your server.

I've never really seen this behavior before. There is one piece of the puzzle that seems odd to me. Normally when TubePress makes an Ajax call it will get back a single HTTP 200 response. However in your case I'm seeing an HTTP 301 response, followed by the empty HTTP 200. Screenshot: http://i.imgur.com/w3djA.png. Any chance you (or your hosting provider) could explain that intermediate response?

A last resort would be to see if an obsolete version (say, 2.2.9) of TubePress works for you.

What do you think?

Eric,

I reached out to the hosting provider and they think that the URL rewrite rule for lower case URL's might have something to do with it - see attachment for report. What baffles me is that everything worked in 2.2.9. version but start going sour a month ago without any changes to web.config file where all the rules are. I thought that it might be a bug and I updated to 2.4.1 but nothing changed. I'm confused.

I'll admit that I'm not familiar with "web.config" nor the report that they provided, but I can see something related to an HTTP 301:

MODULE_SET_RESPONSE_SUCCESS_STATUS ModuleName="RewriteModule", Notification="BEGIN_REQUEST", HttpStatus="301", HttpReason="moved Permanently" 19:42:01.392
Nothing related to TubePress's URL structure has changed between 2.2.9 and 2.4.x, so the only thing I can guess is that the problem indeed lies with the rewrite rules on the web server. Since it's not Apache I'm afraid to say that I don't think I'm going to be very much help in fixing that configuration.

In short, I think your best bet is to work with a URL-rewrite expert at your hosting provider to get rid of the offending filter. I would recommend pointing them to this post if they need details on how to reproduce the issue.

What do you think?

Finally got to the bottom of it!!! It had nothing to do with URL overwrite rules which I kind of already knew since they have been in place when the TubePress plugin worked without any issues. The problem was a wordpress plugin AddThis Social Bookmarking Widget that was creating XML parsing error that I wouldn't catch until one of my customers said that the RSS feed registration wasn't working. Anyway, I deactivated the messy plugin, removed the code from the footer and now both RSS feed and TubePress are working fine.
