Thumbnails Aren't Hq

Best Answer eric , 15 September 2014 - 02:29 PM

Edit 2: I just found out about the black bars add-on. It says that it will change the aspect ratio to 16:9 but will it also fetch the 16:9 thumbs?

The current implementation of the Black Bars Remover Add-On fetches the "mqdefault" thumbnail, e.g. https://img.youtube....c/mqdefault.jpg. These thumbnails are 320x180 (16:9). If you need to go larger, you could likely edit the source of the add-on to use "maxresdefault" instead of "mqdefault".

Does that answer your question?

I'm using Pro and I have HQ images checked in the dashboard. I put in 235x132px for the dimensions in the dashboard, but the src of the thumbs were still feeding in with the default 120x90 for some reason so I had to enlarge them manually with CSS. You can see how blurry that turned out below. How can I make sure the thumbnails show up as 235x132?

I also tried putting it in the PHP statement but still no dice:

<?php print TubePressPro::getHtmlForShortcode('hqThumbs="true" thumbHeight="131" thumbWidth="235"'); ?>

Hi Lakeebs,

I just tried visiting your site and its in maintenance mode.  Let me know once you're done with your maintenance and I'll take a look.

Thanks!

Can you please turn on TubePress Debugging so I can see what's going on under the hood.

Thanks!

Lakeebs,

It appears that the problem is YouTube.  The HQ thumbnail they have for the videos is low quality.  An example is this one, from the "My Dear" Video, direct from YouTube: http://i.ytimg.com/v...s/hqdefault.jpg

As you can see, it is fairly low quality and so gets distorted and looks bad when expanded.

Thanks!

I've tried pulling videos from various YT users and channels (even "/user/Panasonic4K" which serves only 4K vids) and it always comes up with LQ 4:3 thumbnails for some reason. I need them to be 16:9. This is one of the big reasons I bought Pro. I've inputted 235x132 (16:9) in the TubePress options panel, yet the img src still comes up as 120x90 (4:3).

Edit: For example, I found the hires thumbnail for this video here which is 16:9: http://img.youtube.c...xresdefault.jpg However TubePress opts to pull the 4:3 thumbnail instead. Can you help me get this to work?

Edit 2: I just found out about the black bars add-on. It says that it will change the aspect ratio to 16:9 but will it also fetch the 16:9 thumbs?

Yes, but would you be able to help me edit the source if I purchase the add-on?
